Why morning light

Morning light shapes more
than your morning.

Properly timed morning light helps tell your body when the day has begun. Research supports its role in morning alertness and in helping the body become ready for sleep at a more consistent time. Separately, established bright-light therapy protocols can improve symptoms of winter-pattern SAD.

OptimRise is designed to make that daily light exposure a simple, repeatable part of your morning.

Built for darker mornings Winter can make morning light harder to get. OptimRise makes the routine wearable, but it has not been clinically evaluated for mood or seasonal affective disorder (SAD) and should not replace a clinician-recommended light box or medical care.

Benefits describe published research on timed light exposure, not tested outcomes for OptimRise. Individual responses vary. See the research and sources.

The indoor morning

Your body still expects the sun.
Your morning happens indoors.

Most mornings now begin under a ceiling, not a sky.

Studies of daily light exposure consistently find that indoor electric light is typically far dimmer than outdoor morning light—a difference large enough to affect how the body times its day.

The routine

Keep your morning. Add the light.

Nothing to schedule, nothing to sit still for. Put them on while moving through what you already do after waking.

  1. 00:00Wake up. Put them on the way you'd put on any pair of glasses.
  2. 00:01One button. The session starts. No app, no pairing, no settings.
  3. 00:20The session ends and the glasses switch off on their own.
  4. OnwardCoffee, breakfast, reading, getting ready. You were doing this anyway.

Twenty minutes is the intended V1 product setting. Individual responses to light vary, and OptimRise does not measure your circadian phase.

The best routine is the one you’ll actually repeat.

OptimRise is designed around consistency: familiar eyewear, one button and an automatic end to every session. Each decision is weighed against a practical question: will this make tomorrow morning easier?

The product

Morning light that fits your actual morning.

  • Eyewear first A familiar acetate silhouette, designed to look at home in your morning.
  • Light from above LEDs are integrated into the upper frame and aimed down toward the eye, out of your line of sight.
  • One button, one session Press once. Twenty minutes later it switches itself off. No app, Bluetooth, modes or dosing algorithm. Simplicity is the feature.

The science

Why morning light matters for alertness, sleep and seasonal mood.

The role of light in circadian timing is well established. OptimRise is designed to make morning exposure easier to repeat.

  1. How the eye senses light Specialized retinal cells containing melanopsin, together with input from rods and cones, help translate light exposure into signals involved in circadian timing.
  2. A timing signal Light entering the eye participates in the signaling that helps the brain coordinate circadian timing.
  3. Timing matters The same light has different effects depending on when in your day it arrives.

Patrick Sawyer

Patrick is a commercial pilot and flight instructor. Aviation treats fatigue and circadian performance as operational realities. That experience led to a simple question: if the biology of morning light is established, why are the products still so difficult to use consistently?

Questions

Everything we can honestly answer today.

Clear answers about performance targets, remaining validation and what happens next.

What is OptimRise?

OptimRise is circadian light eyewear designed for everyday mornings. It is being developed to deliver a bounded session of blue-enriched morning light from the upper frame while fitting into an existing morning routine.

How does it work?

OptimRise uses frame-integrated LEDs to deliver blue-enriched light from above the eyes. Light entering the eye participates in the signaling that helps the brain coordinate circadian timing. OptimRise is intended for morning use during activities such as making coffee, reading or getting ready.

When would I use it?

Use OptimRise reasonably soon after waking, during your normal indoor morning. OptimRise does not measure your individual circadian phase, and individual responses to light vary.

How long is a session?

OptimRise V1 is being designed around an automatic twenty-minute morning session. One button starts the session and the glasses switch off automatically. Twenty minutes is the intended product setting, not a claim that every person has the same biological response.

How bright is the light?

Final production light output remains subject to optical and safety validation. OptimRise will publish verified eye-plane measurements after testing the production-intent optical system.

What wavelength does it use?

OptimRise V1 is targeting a production spectrum near 480 nm, a region of high melanopsin sensitivity. Early EVT optical testing measured a spectral peak near 472 nm. The target and preliminary reading are kept separate until the production-intent spectrum and eye-level output are validated.

What stage of development is OptimRise in?

OptimRise is currently in Engineering Validation Testing, or EVT. Functioning engineering hardware exists, and the product is being refined toward production with a contract hardware development team. It is not yet a finished production product.

Can I wear prescription lenses?

Prescription-lens compatibility is still being finalized during engineering validation. OptimRise will confirm compatibility before collecting a reservation holder's remaining balance. If the production design does not support a customer's needs, the customer may receive a full refund.

When will it ship?

OptimRise currently estimates shipping between January and March 2027. This estimate depends on engineering, production and safety validation. If the shipping window changes, customers may accept the revised window or cancel for a full refund.

How does the $10 reservation work?

Your fully refundable $10 reservation locks the $199 founding-member price and is applied to your purchase. The remaining $189 will be requested closer to fulfillment after an updated production status and shipping window are provided. It will not be charged automatically without your separate authorization.

Can I pay in full?

Yes. Founding members may choose to pay the complete $199 preorder price at checkout and owe nothing further before shipment.

Is my payment refundable?

Yes. The $10 reservation, the $199 paid-in-full preorder and any later balance payment are fully refundable until shipment. If the estimated shipping window changes, customers may continue waiting or cancel for a full refund.

Is OptimRise safe?

OptimRise has not completed final photobiological safety testing. Safety testing is part of the remaining validation process and must be completed before shipment. People with eye conditions, medications that increase light sensitivity, or conditions affected by bright light should consult a qualified healthcare professional before use.

What is OptimRise designed to support?

OptimRise is designed around category-level research on alertness, sleep and seasonal mood. Properly timed morning light can support wake-time alertness and better sleep by reinforcing circadian timing. Established bright-light therapy protocols can also improve symptoms of winter-pattern SAD. OptimRise itself has not yet been clinically evaluated for alertness, sleep, mood or SAD, so individual outcomes are unknown.

Is OptimRise for people with seasonal affective disorder (SAD)?

Bright-light therapy is an established treatment for winter-pattern SAD under specific clinical protocols. OptimRise may make morning light easier to fit into a darker-season routine, but it has not been clinically evaluated or FDA-cleared to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent SAD. It should not replace a clinician-recommended light box or medical care. If you think you may have SAD, speak with a qualified healthcare professional.

Is OptimRise a medical device?

OptimRise is being developed as a consumer wellness product and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. It is not FDA-approved or FDA-cleared.
